Use JumpCloud SAML Single Sign On (SSO) to give your users convenient but secure access to all their web applications with a single set of credentials. Integrate your JumpCloud account with Tableau Online (Tableau) through an identity management connector. After you connect JumpCloud with Tableau, you can provision, update, and deprovision users in Tableau through your JumpCloud Administrator Portal. Leverage this integration for centralized user lifecycle management and get immediate attribute management of users bound to integrated applications.
Read this article to learn how to integrate Tableau.
Prerequisites
- A Tableau administrator account.
- A JumpCloud administrator account.
- A Tableau business account.
- Your Tableau Online alias.
- Default members must be added to your Tableau groups ahead of time.
- SSO for Tableau is recommended, not required, prior to creating an Identity Management integration. SSO simplifies the login process for your users and reduces the number of usernames and passwords they have to remember.
Important Considerations
- The Tableau SCIM integration uses SCIM v2 protocol.
- JumpCloud can only integrate with Tableau Online, not Tableau Server.
- If you delete an integrated Tableau application from your Applications list, the application is removed from JumpCloud, but any previously bound users remain active in Tableau. These users will be able log in to Tableau with the password they used prior to enablement of SSO to the Tableau application from your JumpCloud account.
- If you deactivate the Identity Management on your Tableau application, previously bound users remain active in Tableau and able to authenticate using SSO. No further updates will be made to user accounts via the Identity Management integration.
- If the site admin’s role changes or the user is removed from the site, the secret token becomes invalid, and another site administrator must generate a new secret token and apply it to the configuration in JumpCloud.
- If a user’s password expires in JumpCloud, their account becomes suspended and they are deactivated in all applications that have Identity Management configured and, are associated to them. Once the user’s password is updated, the account and previously associated applications are reactivated.
Attribute Considerations
- Tableau does not support Sync Password functionality. The Password attribute is ignored.
- The username and primary email attributes must match.
- Tableau only supports one primary email.
- Email addresses that have a ‘+’ in the username are not supported for SSO. The user is successfully created via the SCIM integration. However, the user won’t be able to log in with this type of email address.
- Tableau sets deactivated user’s roles as Unlicensed.
- If SSO is not enabled, new users are prompted to provide a first name, last name, and password when they sign in to Tableau for the first time. First Name and Last Name attributes are not synced to Tableau via SCIM.
- Display Name is not propagated to Tableau.
- Display name is set to the SCIM name.formatted value. If first name and last name were not set in JumpCloud, the value is not provided. Tableau will set the display name to the user’s email address. This also applies if only the last name was set in JumpCloud.
Group Management Considerations
Enabling Group Management
You must select the Enable management of User Groups and Group Membership in this application option to manage groups and group membership in the application from JumpCloud.
Group Provisioning and Syncing
- Empty groups are not created.
- JumpCloud takes over management of existing groups in the application when the user group name in JumpCloud matches the name of the group in the application.
- All user groups associated with the application in JumpCloud are synced. Syncing occurs whenever there is a membership or group change event.
- Group renaming is supported.
- If a user group is disassociated from the application in JumpCloud, syncing immediately stops and the group is left as-is in the application. All members of that user group are deactivated in the application unless they are associated with another active application group that is managed from JumpCloud.
Group Deletion
- Managed groups deleted in JumpCloud are deleted in the application.
- All members of the deleted group are deactivated in the application, unless they are associated with another active application group that is managed from JumpCloud.
Disabling Group Management
- You can disable group and group membership management by unchecking the Enable management of User Groups and Group Membership in this application option.
- The managed groups and group membership are left as-is in the application.
- JumpCloud stops sending group membership information for the user, but the user’s identity will continue to be managed from JumpCloud.
