Create a Mac Policy to Restrict Apple Intelligence

Apple Intelligence is a set of AI features and functionality released by Apple in macOS 15.1 and iOS 18.1. JumpCloud provides a policy to allow IT Admins to restrict these Intelligence features on MDM-enrolled and managed Macs. Read this article to learn about the settings configurable in the Restrict Apple Intelligence for macOS policy.

Prerequisites:

  • MDM is configured for your org and the device is enrolled in MDM.
    • Devices must be enrolled through device enrollment or automated device enrollment; this policy is not supported for devices enrolled through user enrollment.
  • Devices must run macOS 15+.
    • The Disable Mail Summary setting is supported on macOS 15.1+.

To create a Restrict Apple Intelligence policy on macOS:

  1. Log in to the JumpCloud Admin Portal.
  2. Go to DEVICE MANAGEMENT > Policy Management.
  3. In the All tab, click (+).
  4. On the New Policy panel, select the Mac tab.
  5. Select the Restrict Apple Intelligence policy from the list, then click configure.
  6. Under Settings, configure any or all of the following options:
    • Disable Writing Tools – Select this option to disable Apple Intelligence writing tools.
    • Disable Genmoji – Select this option to restrict the creation of new Genmoji.
    • Disable Image Playground – Select this option to restrict the use of image generation.
    • Disable Mail Summary – Select this option to turn off the ability to manually create email summaries.
      • Note this setting is only applicable to devices on macOS 15.1+.
    • Disable Xcode Apple Intelligence On Device Model Interaction Tools – Select this option to restrict the use of Apple Intelligence On Device Model Interaction plugins for Xcode IDE.
    • Disable Xcode Apple Remote Model Intelligence Tools – Select this option to restrict the use of Apple Intelligence Remote Model Interaction plugins for Xcode IDE.
  7. Select the Device Groups tab and select one or more device groups where you’ll apply this policy. For device groups with multiple OS member types, the policy is applied only to the supported OS.
  8. Select the Devices tab and select one or more devices where you’ll apply this policy.
  9. Click save. No additional action is needed for the policy to be activated.
