Troubleshoot Remote Assist: Disable Wayland or GPU Rendering for Linux

Disable Wayland

JumpCloud Remote Assist does not currently support The Wayland Display Server, which replaces the X Window System (also known as X11). Many newer Linux distributions use Wayland.

To disable Wayland on your Linux device:

  1. Open your distribution’s Wayland configuration file from one of the following locations:
    1. sudo nano /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
    2. sudo nano /etc/gdm/custom.conf
  2. Edit the sudo/root privileges using your preferred editor.
    1. Delete the # in the line #WaylandEnable=false to change it to WaylandEnable=false.
    2. Save your edits.

Note:
  • WaylandEnable=false forces your system to use X11 instead of Wayland.
  • If you want to enable the Wayland Display Server again, change WaylandEnable=false to WaylandEnable=true.
  1. For these changes to take effect, choose from one of the following methods:
    1. Reboot the system
    2. In the terminal, run this command: sudo systemctl restart gdm

Note: Running this command will close all open applications and log out all the logged in users.

Disable GPU

To disable GPU rendering and acceleration:

  1. Launch Remote Assist using one of the following command line flags:
    1. /opt/jc_user_ro/jumpcloud-remote-assist/jumpcloud-remote-assist –no-sandbox
